Week One – Build Something

If you are building a house and a nail breaks, do you stop building or do you change the nail? – Rwandan proverb

The best thing anyone can do who feels limited by circumstances in life is to build something. Use your talents, resources, or creativity to pull together with others, and create something that is needed in your community. Start an after school program, a community food co-op, or a coding program for youth. Don’t stay stagnate.

There are countless opportunities to connect with other like minded people and start creating something new today. Start a business, a club, a project that solves a problem. There are countless resources that can help you learn how to create something new. Tune into podcasts, Youtube videos, and books that can give you basic knowledge of what you are trying to do. Begin your journey to discover how you can build something by going to your local library.  Search for books, magazines, or videos of people doing what you’d like to do.

Get moving! Don’t just sit on the sidelines feeling helpless. Get active in doing something that takes you out of your comfort zone. Decide what it is you’d like to do and go for it.  You can begin right where you are. Start a club or organization in your community. Start a meetup group with people who share your interests. Start doing research on what you’d like to do, and then draft action steps to take to launch your project.  You will encounter obstacles and set backs. Don’t allow roadblocks to stop you. Sometimes the best researched plans will need to be changed to achieve a desired goal.

Be patient. Building takes time. Don’t give up if you don’t see immediate results. Keep busy and do one small thing everyday for the FIRST 100 DAYS and you will see results.
